Alexander Pomper is a photographer and storyteller focusing on traditional food cultures and sustainable food systems. He holds a Master’s in Gastronomy from the University of Gastronomic Sciences (UNISG) in Pollenzo, Italy, and studied photography at The Evergreen State College. After years spent working in Portland’s restaurant kitchens and later in product photography with brands like Nike, Alexander turned his attention to documenting food traditions worldwide.
His work in food documentation began during travels through Spain with cheese researcher Trevor Warmedahl. It expanded through Guatemala and Mexico, where he explored traditional fermentation practices, including the production of pulque. Alexander’s approach centers on highlighting the resilience of farmers, producers, and chefs, capturing their stories and contributions to disappearing food traditions candidly and authentically.
Currently, he’s working on a photo book that will honor those safeguarding disappearing food traditions and is also exploring documentary filmmaking. When not behind the camera, Alexander can be found experimenting in his kitchen with kimchi, kombucha, mead, and hot sauces, or DJing at events—bringing the same passion for creativity to all areas of his life.
Alexander also offers digital capture technician services to professional photographers.
